Why it exists
Khalwa is not an upgrade. It is a practice with a long history in this tradition, and the Hijra is the reason it belongs on this particular road: before any of it began, before the revelation and before the migration, the Prophet ﷺ went up to a cave on Hira to be alone.
On the third day in Makkah the group walks that same instinct. Some people find that the walking is the easy part, and the hard part is that there is never a moment where nobody is looking at you. If you know that about yourself, this is the room you want.
Nothing on the road marks you out
Every Khalwa benefit stops at the hotel door. The same stages, the same food, the same sittings, the same tent on the route. No front of the bus, no separate table, no private dinner with the imam. Twenty-four other people walk beside you and none of them will know what you paid.
What the room carries
A room of your own, in both cities
Three nights at the Hyatt Regency Jabal Omar in Makkah, two at the Dar Al Hijrah InterContinental in Medina. A door that closes at the end of every city day. On the route you sleep in the same camp as everyone else, on purpose.
A sitting before you go
Half an hour with Imam Dawood on what you are going for, weeks before you leave. At home, unhurried, before the road makes his time everyone's.
It sends a student
Each Khalwa room funds a student place on the same road. You will get a letter from them at the end. Nobody else is told.
7 rooms exist across both trips: 4 in Group A and 3 in Group B. That is the hotel allocation, not a marketing device. You pick how you want to travel when you register, and we allocate in the order deposits clear.
Who takes it
- You have travelled in groups before and know that you need somewhere to go at the end of the day
- You are coming to work something out, and the working out needs quiet
- You are travelling alone and would rather not be paired with a stranger
If a room of your own would mean you come home with more than you otherwise would, take it. If it would only mean you spent more, take the quad and put the difference in the Scholarship Fund. Both are the right answer and we will not chase you toward either one.
